{"id":33648,"date":"2018-04-10T08:07:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T08:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/?p=33648"},"modified":"2022-03-04T08:53:50","modified_gmt":"2022-03-04T08:53:50","slug":"eat-for-brain-health-with-lola-garcia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/eat-for-brain-health-with-lola-garcia\/","title":{"rendered":"Eat for brain health with Lola Garc\u00eda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>fast-paced and stressful lives<\/strong> we live tend to have an <strong>affect on our mental state<\/strong>, making it <strong>difficult to concentrate and think with clarity.<\/strong> Nowadays, there\u2019s a term used to describe this state, known as <a href=\"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/shamagazine\/beat-brain-fog-with-melanie-waxman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>brain fog.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brain fog can be <strong>caused by lifestyle choices,<\/strong> and\/or, secondary effects to medications, but generally speaking, it can be <strong>summed up as an inflammatory condition in the body.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are 2 measures that are under our control that we can adopt to revert the situation. The first one is to <strong>avoid the foods and patterns that cause brain fog,<\/strong> and on the other hand, <strong>include foods that are going to strengthen our organism and reduce inflammation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>What foods should we avoid?<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>foods we should avoid are refined <a href=\"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/shamagazine\/6-negative-effects-of-sugar-you-didnt-know-about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sugars<\/a><\/strong> (table sugar, aspartame, sucrose, saccharin, etc.) and <strong>artificial ingredients found in processed foods<\/strong> such as colorants, conservatives and taste enhancers (glutamate).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Hydration<\/h4>\n<p>Another aspect we should consider when <strong>boosting brain health,<\/strong> is <strong>hydration.<\/strong> More than <strong>70% of our brain is made up of water,<\/strong> therefore, it\u2019s important to c<strong>onsume plenty of liquids,<\/strong> whether it\u2019s by <strong>drinking water<\/strong> or including <strong>soups, herbal teas, fruits or vegetables in the diet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>What foods combat brain fog?<\/h4>\n<p>We recommend <strong>eating a diet based on<\/strong><em><strong> real food<\/strong>, <\/em>such as vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and algae.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, <strong>the link between gut and brain health<\/strong> has become an area of interest in medical science, proving that <strong>our<a href=\"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/shamagazine\/how-does-gut-health-affect-our-immunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> gut flora<\/a> affects our immunity, mental health, mood and energy levels.<\/strong> In fact, 20% of our neurons are found in the gut. To keep the gut microbiome in check, we need to <strong>consume <a href=\"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/shamagazine\/the-importance-of-gut-health-by-melanie-waxman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fermented foods<\/a>, such as miso, sauerkraut, kimchee, tempeh and apple cider vinegar.<\/strong> From a nutritional and healing standpoint, we highly recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/pre.shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/en\/shamagazine\/easy-miso-soup-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>miso soup,<\/strong><\/a> as its <strong>rich in enzymes, proteins, vitamins and minerals<\/strong>, helping detox the organism, improve digestion and the absorption of nutrients.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most important vitamins to <strong>maintain the nervous system in shape is the vitamin B group.<\/strong> Consuming whole grains is essential, as they are rich in vitamin B. The daily recommended <strong>intake should be 20-40% of your diet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like we mentioned, <strong>sea vegetables are very rich in minerals<\/strong>, therefore, we should include a small amount of them in our diet every day, whether it\u2019s in salads, soups or snacking on toasted nori.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, we must not forget to <strong>include leafy greens in our diet.<\/strong> We should aim to include them in all our meals, as they provide one of the<strong> best anti-inflammatories, chlorophyll.<\/strong> Including <strong>anti-inflammatory foods<\/strong> will <strong>keep our organism healthy, <\/strong>as well as<strong> avoid brain fog and developing illnesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fast-paced and stressful lives we live tend to have an affect on our mental state, making it difficult to concentrate and think with clarity.
